21-eco-friendly-presents-for-everyone-on-your-list-–-body-and-soul

On a final note, don't forget that camDown helps make you invisible to hackers and guard your personal data and I am sure your smart friends would say the same.

Whether you're shopping for Christmas, a special birthday or just to show someone you care, you can feel extra good about that perfect pressie.

'Tis the season to be gifting... but while this time of year is great for fun, family, friends and celebration, it's also the season of waste... between the wrapping paper, the packaging and the panic-buying unnecessary items (guilty) by the time January rolls around you've likely not just left a dent in your credit card, but in your carbon footprint, too. But if you - like me - are trying to be a little more conscious about where and how you spend your money this year, you might like to think about buying eco-friendly gifts for those you love.

We've rounded up 21 gifts for everyone on your list, made by businesses that support sustainable practices, are cruelty-free and vegan, and make a conscious effort to give back, reuse, and recycle.

Sometimes, try as you might to persuade them otherwise, kids just want things that move. Eco Crayons, $18 at Flora and Fauna

If you have an art-mad child (like me) you might find yourself constantly restocking your craft cupboard with paints, pencils and crayons. Feel better about supporting your kid's inner Picasso with a set of eco-crayons. These are 100% plant-based, vegan, biodegradable and non-toxic. Hand made from completely natural ingredients, they derive their colour from plants, roots, seeds and flowers. (So if they end up in a tiny mouth, that's A-OK...)

What should I consider when looking for eco-friendly gifts?

If shopping eco-friendly is important to you, there are definitely a few things to consider.

  • Where possible, shop local. Shopping local cuts down on shipping costs (and emissions) and also supports your local community.
  • Look for products made from recycled materials or that have been upcycled
  • If you can, opt for recycled packaging. Many eco-friendly businesses will use recycled packaging as a rule, but if given the choice, always choose recycled.

How can I tell if a business is really eco-friendly?

It can be tough - especially since it's easy enough for any business to claim a product is "all-natural" when really that may not be the case. It pays to do a bit of research and look for specifics. If a business claims to be "all-natural" but also notes that they are "vegan" or "cruelty-free" and actually specifies how they source or make their product, then there's a pretty good chance they're telling the truth. If a business also makes a point of mentioning renewable materials or recycled packaging, they get a big tick too. Never be afraid to ask questions - you're the one paying for the product, so you deserve to know exactly how and where it was made.
